Red Root Floaters, or Phyllanthus Fluitans, are a freshwater floating fern plant known in the aquascaping game for their unique look, deep red roots, and easy care. These highly sought-after floaters are known as the “Red Root Floater” because of their remarkable & stunningly red roots. Although Red Root Floaters appear similar to green Salvinia floaters, the leaves are a bit larger and can turn a deep red color. It can also sometimes be misidentified as immature Water Lettuce.

The Red Root Floaters arrived and they were all green (leaves & roots). But that’s normal. Even plants get stressed and typically they don’t display their best appearance from Wholesaler to Retailer to End Customer. I’m sure with my semi-high tech tank with Medium Light (2 watts per gallon), two bottles of 1.5 L DIY Carbon Dioxide diffusion in a 20 gallon, and lots of liquid fertilizers (Macro, Micro, Carbon, Calcium) using Estimative Index of Tom Barr with bi-weekly 25% Water Change, they will eventually turn pink (leaves) and red (roots). WARNING to newbies. You might think they are big (based on the photo) but they are actually quite small. I initially thought they might have delivered the wrong item since they looked like simple green Salvinia or newly picked youngling from a runner of Water Lettuce. But on close inspection and additional research, they were the genuine thing. Can’t wait for them to transition into pink/red as well as spreading/multiplying at the surface. As usual, THANKS for all the other freebies!!!
